Credentials, presented plainly

Swaran's teaching is grounded in direct, ongoing study with senior Ashtanga teachers.

    Training never really stops

Even after decades of practice, Swaran continues to study directly with senior teachers — refining her own practice so she can teach with precision and care.

    What Is Ashtanga?

    A traditional practice, taught individually

Ashtanga is a traditional, breath-linked practice built from a progressive series of postures. The Mysore method — named for the city in India where this style of teaching developed — is the traditional way Ashtanga is learned: each student practices their own evolving sequence in a shared room, with individual guidance rather than a single pace set for everyone.

What to expect in a Mysore-style class

Mysore Ashtanga is open to every level of experience. Students practice at their own pace within a shared class while receiving individual instruction according to their needs and ability. Movement is mindful, with an emphasis on breath awareness.

The set sequence does not need to be memorized before attending. Postures are taught progressively, with new postures introduced as each student is ready. Modifications are offered to accommodate physical needs and challenges. All ages and beginners are welcome.

    No experience needed to start

Your first class is simply an introduction — Swaran will teach you the opening sequence at a pace suited to your body, and build from there over time. There's no need to arrive already knowing the practice.

Ashtanga can support strength, flexibility, and steadiness of mind, but it isn't a substitute for medical care. If you have an injury or health condition, let Swaran know so your practice can be modified appropriately.
